Call in English

About the conference:

At a time when there is an optimistic post-crisis and post-austerity discourse, what are the old and new roles for the Welfare State in Portugal? What are the marks left by the difficult period of austerity that the country has experienced in recent years? And what new ways have been opened? Is the economic recovery for all or just for some?

The 2019 edition of the ESPAnet Portugal conference, organized by the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto, aims to stimulate academic discussion about the present and the future of the Welfare State in Portugal. It will offer a forum for debate where academics from different disciplines and from different geographies, joined by their common interest in research in the field of Social Policy, can meet and discuss the new and the old challenges that arise in the construction of social policy agendas, in Portugal and in regions of the world close to the Portuguese reality.

The conference is open to all those actively involved in social policy research and welcomes contributions from all relevant disciplines. The conference will be organized into 21 themed streams to which we invite submissions of abstracts. There are two themed streams and one open stream in English. Authors that do not speak Portuguese are welcomed to submit an abstract in English to any of these streams.
